Rosewood ~ Another Endangered Species

Our planet produces an amazing abundance of plants which are edible and healing but we live in a period of time on beautiful Mother Earth where there are those who take advantage of the gifts she has provided for us.  Brazilian rosewood trees have now become another endangered species and therefore, Rosewood essential oil will not be as readily available for some time.

Rosewood Tree

All genuine rosewoods belong to the genus Dalbergia. The pre-eminent rosewood appreciated in the western world is the wood of Dalbergia nigra which is now a CITES – listed endangered species. It is best known as Brazilian Rosewood, but also as “Rio Rosewood” or “Bahia Rosewood.” This wood has a strong sweet smell, which persists over the years, explaining the name “rosewood”.  All rosewoods are strong and heavy, so in the past this wood has been used in making guitars, marimbas, turnery (billiard cues, the black pieces in chess sets, etc), handles, furniture, luxury flooring, etc.

Rosewood essential oil, therapeutic grade, contains a high amount of linalol which many companies have used in the production of soaps and personal care products. Rosewood is very soothing to the skin and has been shown to even slow the aging process while also being a wonderful tonic for skin conditions like acne and eczema. Rosewood essential oil has been researched at Weber State University in Ogden, Utah for its inhibition rate against gram positive and gram negative bacterial growth.

Young Living Essential Oils cares about our planet and all life forms, therefore, Rosewood essential oil will not be available for as long as this tree is threatened ~ another reason why I love our company so much!  The following statement was issued:

A Note on Young Living Reducing the Use of Rosewood Oil

At Young Living we are committed to being responsible stewards of the environment and taking great care to preserve and protect our natural resources. These core values are demonstrated by our Seed to Seal philosophy, which promotes sustainable farming and sourcing practices, while enabling us to produce the most potent essential oils in the world.

Occationally, we learn of resources that are under stress from over-harvesting or industry exploitation. Over the past few years, we have become increasingly concerned about the health and population of Brazilian rosewood trees. These beautiful trees are under tremendous strain due to unscrupulous suppliers that illegally harvest and sell the wood for use in furniture, musical instruments, flooring, and other decorative items. In our efforts to be responsible corporate citizens and to lesson global rosewood demand, we are taking steps to remove or reduce rosewood oil in our oil blends and personal care products.

We will replace rosewood in these products with a new proprietary blend of coriander, furanocoumarin-free bergamot, ylang ylang, and geranium. This unique combination closely matches the distinctive rosewood aroma and offers a similar chemical profile.

Rosewood has a lovely, woody floral scent and is high in linalol, a chemical constituent with antibacterial and antiviral properties. Its fragrance offers empowering and emotionally stabilizing benefits. Great care was taken to formulate the replacement blend with the same characteristics. Coriander was added to the blend because of its uniquely high levels of linalol. In addition, the blend includes furanocoumarin-free bergamot, also high in linalol, and specially distilled to remove photosensitivity properties.

We are confident that the fragrance and function of the reformulated products will be equal or superior to what you have come to expect. The products affected include:

Only the products listed above will be affected by these changes. We do not anticipate a need to reformulate other products but will continue to monitor the health and supply of rosewood and make adjustments if necessary. The reformulation of these products is further evidence of Young Living’s leadership role in the industry as we set the standard for ecologically friendly business practices that enhance and sustain our natural resources.

A Man On A Mission

There have been so many exciting new developments at Young Living Essential Oils which is one of the reasons why I am an Independent Distributor and proud to be aligned with one man’s mission to empower every human being, animal and plant on this planet!  Here is just one recent example:

I'm standing beside one of our newly planted Oman Balsam tree's with new Frankincense trees behind me in our new field that has just been prepared for planting. Here in Salalah Oman.

Tomorrow marks a great day, one that I have worked for for 16 years. I found the tree 2 years ago in the mountains of South Western Yeman and with the help of Dr Suhail we were able to get the resin, distill and I now have in my hands the First in the world The Sweet Myrrh of the Bible. WOW!!! It is AMAZING!!! Read Kings 1

I’m here in our distillery in Oman where we distill Frankincense from 8 to 10 kilos of oil per day. And now we have started distilling the Sweet Myrrh.

This is with out question another dream come true for me. Next will be the Balsam of the Bible that we are now growing and doing research on.

This is not something that happens from a company that can only focus on marketing and made up stories, this is from 25 years work and 16 years in the field developing relationships with Government and the people. Yes Young Living the World Leader, we bring you what know other company can bring you. We were the first to import Frankincense from Oman and had to work with the Omani government for months to obtain the first ever issued permits for the export of Frankincense.

Having a distillery in the country asures us of our quality that NO one can match, we know what we have because we do it, we do not buy it from a broker. Young Living setting the standard for the world, and God has bless me beyond words and I give thanks everyday. And I thank all of you for sharing the message of Young Living’s mission.

The time is now to return to nature’s ability to restore balance in our bodies, minds, and spirit and when we do this, we also restore balance to the planet, one person at a time.  Yes, you can make a difference now.  Join us, align with the mission of Young Living Essential Oils and discover your purpose!
