Q. Is Ruta graveolens oil safe?
A. Yes; Ruta (rue) oil is a very different chemical composition than the Ruta graveolens herb itself. The herb or water extracts from the herb can have negative effects at very high dosages. Ruta oil is composed primarily of ingredients that are Generally Recognized As Safe (GRAS) according to the FDA.

Q. Should RutaVaLa be used as a dietary supplement?
A. No; RutaVaLa should only be used aromatically as indicated in the How to Use section.

Q. Should RutaVaLa be used topically?
A. No; Ruta oil contains a photosensitizing compound. Caution should be used when applying topically to skin that will be exposed to sunlight within 12-24 hours.

I have also found, as have many clients, that RutaVala to be helpful for sleep.  In addition, people are finding it quite helpful during the day for anxiety.  For some, just smelling the blend is enough to calm them down and help to navigate anxious times.  For others, a drop or two on their solar plexus or on the back of the neck helps to bring them back into a more relaxed state.

For the Animals, I have also found this to be a wonderful assistance for bringing the dog or horse who is hyped up down into a more reasonable state.

Recently, I had my horse dentist come out to work on the horse’s teeth.  I knew that my eldest horse Ibis had done well with Valor and Peace and Calming in the past.  This is not his favorite thing in the world to have done, but the combination of Valor, Peace and Calming and stroking his body and legs with a  TTEAM wand has always been enough to calm him during the procedures.  We have not had to use any drugs for calming.  This year, I wanted to add in RutaVala to see how this helped.  About a half hour before the vet arrived, I applied  about 10 drops of Valor to his poll, ears, shoulders sacrum and belly.  I then did the same with Peace and Calming.  He ad already been his normal quiet relaxed self.  But after the application of the oils his muscles really got relaxed, and he looked very, very peaceful.  I like to apply the oils while they are still calm and prior to an event that I know will be ‘exciting’ in order to help calm the nervous system first, before it gets stimulated.  Then when the vet drove in, I applied about 5 drops of RutaVala.  Ibis was an absolute gem.  He was far better than he had ever been in the 21 years I have had him.  He stood as if having someone stick a file in his mouth to file those teeth down was the most normal thing in the world to do!!!  It was so awesome.

Insomnia
Hi Artemis, I have been collecting so many wonderful healing stories as I share my oils with friends and family but one that really sticks in my mind is when I was chatting to my friend regarding insomnia. She has had years of only being able to sleep for 2 – 3 hours at a time, then wandering around the house for another couple of hours waiting for sleep to kick in.  After applying 2 drops of RutaVaLa to the back of her neck her sleep time increased from 4 hours to a constant 7 hours.  Even with the 4 hours of sleep she mentioned that she woke feeling rested and ready to meet the day.  I have also noticed increased motivation and a general improvement in wellbeing.  I have often used this oil when I have a late night and need to be on top of things early the next day with fantastic results.  I still get tired during the middle part of my day but a drop of peppermint on the tongue soon cures that! – Sharon B. Reply from Artemis: RutaVaLa is a wonderful new blend from Young Living. It contains Ruta, Valerian and Lavender, hence the name Ruta VaLa. The Ruta plant is used in Ecuador for crying babies. The Ecuadorians will wave a frond of the Ruta plant over a crying baby, to put them to sleep instantly. Not bad, huh! I often put a drop of RutaVaLa on the back of my neck (where the neck joins the skull) and then put 3 drops of Roman Chamomile on the back of my neck. I do this when I go to bed, and have a great night’s sleep. This was a protocol that Gary Young suggested to me, as a “de-stress” combination for people (like me) that are workaholics, to help pull us out of sympathetic override and back into nervous system balance.
